The Saturday Light Brigade

We’re joined by three members of Gilda’s Teen Advisory Committee, a select group of high school students committed to helping spread awareness, understanding, and advocacy in their schools and communities about how cancer affects teens. They join us to discuss their efforts and to preview their upcoming Battle of the Bands fundraiser.

This week we’re proud to host the talented duo South Wind, comprised of Annie Trimble and Curt Cooper. South Wind presents a variety of traditional and contemporary folk music, including Appalachian, Celtic and original compositions.

Through spoken word, movement, drama, and song, Dreams of Hope youth performers explore bullying and its negative consequences in their production of Bully Me. Show premiers at the August Wilson Center on Sunday, January 30 at 4:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. We welcome members of the cast who will preview a scene, live on SLB.

Jane Marcus of Animal Friends drops by our studios, bringing a beautiful little pet with hopes of finding it a home. If you’d like to adopt a cuddly little creature, Animal Friends is a great place to start!

We’re pleased to welcome the very talented duo of David Meyer and Jim Sabol, who together make up the delightful folk group, Big Snow Big Thaw.

We’re happy to host talented, classical guitarist David Weale again on our program.

During the holidays of 2010, several young students from Manchester Academic Charter School wrote stories about their traditions, many of which appeared in the Northside Chronicle. This week we’re joined by a few of the young writers, along with MACS faculty and Emily Leone of the NCS.
