Youth Expression Showcase

Joining us, participants in the 2011 Pittsburgh CLO Academy’s Summer Camps. These summer performance camps are designed to give kids the opportunity to experience preparing for and performing on the stage. Working with a Director, Music Director and Choreographer, students create their own exciting musical theater experience! More information is available below.

Abbie Ferry,19, has been playing guitar for about 4 years. She graduated from Franklin Regional High School in 2010 and is going into her second year at Penn State University at University Park. We’re pleased to host her debut broadcast performance, live on SLB.

Joining us are the young adults from the CMNH’s Teen Docent Program. Teens ages 13 and up may become trained museum volunteers who answer visitors’ questions about animals, exhibitions and the museum. Most often you see them at Exploration Carts focusing on Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians, Dinosaurs in Their Time, Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt, Hall of African Wildlife, and Insects.

Alex Loverich-Bernard, 15, Sully Dunn, 16, Sam Hedin, 15, and Jack Decker, 15, comprise “My Second Heart,” a touring rock-and-roll band who recently performed for the Pittsburgh Marathon. Here they perform their original songs, live on SLB.

In “Write On!” at Summer Dreamers Camp CAPA, professional artists work with campers to teach the art of playwriting, using many theatre tools such as acting, improvisation, brainstorming, and movement. Campers interact with professional actors and directors while penning original plays. Joining us is Kristen Link from City Theatre and her young playwrights, live on SLB.

Joining us is the cast of South Park Children’s Theatre, performing selections from their latest production.

Our Summer Dreamers Radio Campers are sharing their talents as well as their experiences in the city-wide camp called the Summer Dreamers Academy, which is free for all PPS students K-8. Joining us, camper Gabby Johnson and her mom, along with Summer Dreamers Project Manager Eddie Wilson, discussing the 2011 Summer Dreamers Academy and the Pittsburgh Promise – a college scholarship opportunity made available to all PPS students.

Singer-songwriter Sydney Wolff, 15, of North Hills High, performing her original works along with friend and collaborator Sasha Kotarski, also 15.

Ten year-old cellists Annie and Danny–from the Center for Young Musicians–perform a duet for us this week.

Nearly 100 third, fourth and fifth grade students at Pittsburgh Manchester K-8 participated in this innovative project celebrating neighborhood history through music and art.
