Propel Northside: Veteran Oral History Project

In Summer of 2017, SLB Radio Productions, Inc., in partnership with Propel Schools and Leadership Pittsburgh, convened a group of 6th through 8th grade students to conduct interviews with local veterans about their military experiences. While learning about digital audio recording, the students also discussed the importance of storytelling through the oral tradition. With support as needed, students arranged and conducted the interviews.

Special thanks to Rachel Scott, Deanna Dugan, Rosemary Anderson, Lashawna McHenry and everyone at Propel Northside, Josh Marino, Erik Orient, Leadership Pittsburgh and the Veterans Breakfast Club.

The Smart Sport is designed to provide high school students with an exciting, hands-on team experience while they learn about the pathways to a rewarding career in manufacturing. Under the expert guidance of their high school teachers and industry mentors, students work in teams during the academic year to design and build 15lb Bots to battle in a gladiator-style competition.
