Child Rights and You America is a nonprofit organization that raises funds in support of projects in India aimed toward restoring basic rights to children from marginalized communities. 19 year-old Indian singer Akshay Hari, along with CRY local chapter chair Adam McGregor, join us to preview their Festival in the Park fundraiser.

We’re pleased to welcome the legendary swimming coach, Hosea Holder, who has been inspiring and creating opportunities for kids ages 6-18 to learn to swim and compete for over 40 years. His team, The Stingrays, are a year-round, competitive program based at the Kingsley Center, East Liberty. Coach will be joined by a few of his past and present students, live on SLB.

Daniel Simkins joins us to preview Doo Dah Days, a festival highlighting the music and heritage of Stephen Foster. Performances, discussions and cemetery tours via trolley will be held in Allegheny Cemetery.See the website from complete details.

We are extremely lucky to have a bona fide country music “legend” living in Pittsburgh. Centenarian Slim Bryant resides in Dormont and is an historic figure in C&W, who’s illustrious career includes having written the Jimmie Rodgers’ classic, Mother, the Queen of My Heart. Bryant’s Wildcats were a radio staple in the Fifties, with frequent performances on KDKA’s “The Farm Show.”

As we celebrate World Environment Day with Pittsburgh as the North American host city, Rebecca Lucore talks about Pittsburgh’s hosting of the International Children’s Painting Competition Exhibition, organized annually by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Bayer Corporation and Nikon Corporation. The competition invites children from around the world, ages six to 14, to illustrate their personal view of the environment. More than 75 artworks from North America, including the winning entries and the best from Pittsburgh, are on display 6/4 through 8/1 at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. This year’s theme is “Biodiversity: Connecting with Nature.”

The Penn-Del Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture will host the Western Tree Climbing Championship in Allegheny Commons on Saturday May 22. The competitive games will provide an opportunity for tree lovers to see professional tree workers perform skills…
