Since 1978, The Saturday Light Brigade has broadcast LIVE spontaneous on-air phone calls from kids and adults as part of its Saturday morning radio program. Now you can hear some of the most memorable calls from people participating in on-air games and other participatory features or simply calling to tell us about something exciting.

A new semester at Clairton’s CASTLE program means a brand new semester of Radio Club! Students were introduced to The Saturday Light Brigade, various professional recording equipment, as well as proper microphone technique before writing and recording pieces describing themselves.

Students at Clairton’s CASTLE after school program finished building their DIY microphones! Then, after sanding off an insulating coating on their makeshift leads, they were able to test their mics by connecting them to a mixer and speaker using alligator clips.

Students at Clairton’s CASTLE program, after learning how they worked, got to build microphones out of household materials! Using just two magnets, a length of copper wire, three washers, a nut, a bolt, a plastic straw and a cup, campers created an amazing piece of technology!

Clairton CASTLE 2015: Vocoder

Students at Clairton School District’s CASTLE program took a break from recording this week to experiment with a “vocoder,” a device that can alter a speaker’s voice. After taking turns with our wireless mic describing some of their brief, written stories, students then got a chance to play a makeshift game of “20 Questions.”
