Child Rights and You America is a nonprofit organization that raises funds in support of projects in India aimed toward restoring basic rights to children from marginalized communities. 19 year-old Indian singer Akshay Hari, along with CRY local chapter chair Adam McGregor, join us to preview their Festival in the Park fundraiser.
Pittsburgh-based singer-songwriter Heather Kropf’s music is a blend of piano-driven folk, soul, and pop. She'll be joined by guitarist Keith Hershberger.
We're pleased to welcome the legendary swimming coach, Hosea Holder, who has been inspiring and creating opportunities for kids ages 6-18 to learn to swim and compete for over 40 years. His team, The Stingrays, are a year-round, competitive program based at the Kingsley Center, East Liberty. Coach will be joined by a few of his past and present students, live on SLB.
A Generous Act is an exciting and innovative project conceived by artist Mark Garry, in which a talented group of international musicians will collaborate over a period of 16 days at the Mattress Factory museum, whose 4th floor has been converted into a recording studio. These original compositions were written by the Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 Young Writers’ Club. Participating 3rd and 4th graders met after school on a regular basis, wrote and polished their projects, and recorded them in their classroom using portable recorders.
GirlTalk Radio is a youth radio program in which students learn research, interviewing and digital audio editing to create a series of radio broadcasts and podcasts. Girl Talk Radio PPG Edition features two teams from Manchester Academic Charter School interviewing two women with outstanding careers in science and technology at PPG Industries.
SLB helps 8th graders prepare audio essays on their reflections as they leave Manchester Academic Charter School in a project funded by the Dominion Foundation.
