Since 1978, The Saturday Light Brigade has broadcast LIVE spontaneous on-air phone calls from kids and adults as part of its Saturday morning radio program. Now you can hear some of the most memorable calls from people participating in on-air games and other participatory features or simply calling to tell us about something exciting.

Propel East – 2nd Grade – Fables

As part of a 6-week Creative Arts program in Spring of 2013, second graders at Propel East learned about the technology used to make recordings for radio. Students read Aesop’s fables, discussed parts of a story, and then wrote and illustrated original stories that they turned into books. They then recorded these stories, which are also scheduled for distribution via The Saturday Light Brigade radio program.

Taylor Allderdice – Racism in Pittsburgh

On June 3rd, 2013, students at Taylor Allderdice High School attended their final recording session. The question posed this time, initially, was: “Is Pittsburgh Racist?” which then evolved into both more general questions concerning race relations beyond our city limits and the effect (if any) of President Barack Obama’s time in office.

From 06/01/2013: The 4th Annual Gilda’s Club Teen Writing and Art Contest serves as a venue for teens who have personal experiences with cancer to express themselves through stories, poetry and art. We’re pleased to have this talented and inspiring group of individuals in our studios, live on SLB.

Gilda’s Club is a warm and welcoming place where men, women, teens, and children diagnosed with cancer, and family and friends, join with others to build social, emotional and informational support as a supplement to medical care.
