Our weekly radio program invites students in Grades K-12 to perform live on the air. Hear young musicians, singer/songwriters, photographers, writers, poets and other people who express themselves through the arts.

Since 1978, The Saturday Light Brigade has broadcast LIVE spontaneous on-air phone calls from kids and adults as part of its Saturday morning radio program. Now you can hear some of the most memorable calls from people participating in on-air games and other participatory features or simply calling to tell us about something exciting.

New at Neighborhoodvoices: Children of the New World is a summer camp offered by the Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts. Taught by leaders of the Oakland Girls Choir, the camp includes a week of musical learning, art activities, dance classes, and games which focus on different cultures in the Americas. This performance is a culmination of the music they’ve learned over the week, from a group of 1st through 6th grade girls.

New at Neighborhoodvoices: The youth cast of South Park Theatre’s latest production, ‘Blame It on the Wolf’, perform selected scenes from the play. The South Park Theatre’s mission is to provide quality, affordable mainstream theatre to both adults and children in the region and encourage participation and involvement in the arts. The Children’s Theatre stage is a unique, outdoor venue for children to enjoy quality, family-friendly theatre.

New at Neighborhoodvoices: Jamie McCullough is 17 years old and a soon-to-be freshman at West Virginia University, as well as bass player for the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. He joins us in our studios to perform selections for double bass, and to discuss the importance of youth music programs, live on SLB.

New at Neighborhoodvoices: The Fairchild Challenge fosters interest in the environment by encouraging teenagers to investigate, devise imaginative and effective responses, and to take action at many levels on environmental issues through a menu of Challenges. This week we’re joined by Nick, Derek, Ryan, and Andrew, all seniors and members of the Shaler Area High School team, who, in addition to winning multiple challenges, also received first place for the entire 2011-2012 Fairchild Challenge.

New at Neighborhoodvoices: The Fairchild Challenge fosters interest in the environment by encouraging teenagers to investigate, devise imaginative and effective responses, and to take action at many levels on environmental issues through a menu of Challenges. This week we’re joined by winners Alicia Ferrilli and Chrissy Figan who successfully completed Challenge #5: Intergenerational Interviews, where students interview an elder about his or her experiences and relationship with nature, and then compare and contrast the elder’s experience with the student’s own.
