Teen Media Awards 2017
On August 12th 2017, The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh hosted the 2017 Teen Media Awards at the library’s main branch in Oakland. The ceremony honored the works of Pittsburgh area youth through the Labsy Awards and the Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest. Youth Express microphones were on hand to hear from members of CLP’s staff, teen attendees, and community advocates to capture the spirit of the event.
Getting to the Point Season 1
In Summer 2017, eleven students created radio features while taking part in The Heinz Endowments Youth Philanthropy Internship Program. The resulting features cover issues identified by the interns during research and field work conducted throughout the summer. While SLB provided training and coaching, the features presented below were conceived and created entirely by the students.
CLP Allegheny – Summer 2017
Our cohort of youth created some fantastic podcasts this summer at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Allegheny branch in the North Side. Topics ranged from bullying to the pros and cons of technology to the benefits of the programs CLP Allegheny offers.

Propel Northside: Veteran Oral History Project
In Summer of 2017, SLB Radio Productions, Inc., in partnership with Propel Schools and Leadership Pittsburgh, convened a group of 5th through 8th grade students to conduct interviews with local veterans about their military experiences. While learning about digital audio recording, the students also discussed the importance of storytelling through the oral tradition. With support as needed, students arranged and conducted the interviews.
