In partnership with A+ Schools, WAMO 100 and Familylinks, Pittsburgh Public Schools hosted its annual back to school event. #WeArePPS: A Back to School event was designed to equip participating families with the resources necessary to achieve a healthy start to the 2015-2016 school year.

It’s been a fun year with Pittsburgh King in the North Side. In celebration of their hard work and the start of summer, we had a party and listened back to their great work.

Pittsburgh King After School: Studio Day
After a bit of a layoff due to state testing, our Radio Club at Pittsburgh King in the North Side reconvened at our studios. Students got to listen to some of their previous works, learn about the studio, and do some scratch recording.
Pittsburgh Manchester Prek-8: “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up”
Students at Pittsburgh Manchester wrote and recorded these pieces where they describe what they want to be when they grow up. These pieces are a result of their weekly sessions in which students will learn about the microphones, mixers and digital recorders used in producing features for radio.

Pittsburgh Allegheny 6-8 After School 2015: “A Pig’s Life”
It’s our final day of Radio Club at Pittsburgh Allegheny Traditional Academy! And to celebrate all the hard work the students have put into writing and recording over the course of these six weeks we decided to eat some snacks before venturing down into The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, into The Saturday Light Brigade’s radio studio to make one final recording!

Students at Pittsburgh Manchester Prek-8 were asked to write a not-so-typical story, one that had to begin like this: “One night, you’re eating dinner with your family, when one of the peas on your plate starts whispering to you. Pittsburgh Allegheny 6-8 After School 2015: Zoo Escape Story & Three Things About Me
7th graders at ATA took time to answer a couple of hypothetical questions: “What would you do if your food started talking to you?” and “What if, while trapped in a Zoo with possibly blood thirsty animals, you could speak to said animals–Dr. Dolittle style?”
