Read the full story »Over the course of 5 weeks, 7th Graders at Pittsburgh Manchester PreK-8 have been working hard creating awesome audio recordings and, to celebrate all their hard work, the students got to throw an awesome party on their final day! Have a great Summer!
As we said goodbye to our Brashear students for the summer, we looked (well, listened) back to all the great work they did over the year. Students enjoyed refreshments and received a CD containing some choice recordings from our time together.
In the Spring of 2015, students in the CASTLE program at Clairton Middle School worked with Sense of Place Learning and Grow Pittsburgh to build, plant and maintain a raised-bed schoolyard garden.
After a bit of a layoff due to state testing, our Radio Club at Pittsburgh King in the North Side reconvened at our studios. Students got to listen to some of their previous works, learn about the studio, and do some scratch recording.
The end of the school year is always a little bittersweet. On one hand, there are no more early mornings. No more class. Then again, there aren’t the daily interactions with friends, teachers, and classmates. Underclassmen will return to Brashear next year, but for those graduating it marks the start of a brand new chapter of life.
Students at Pittsburgh Manchester wrote and recorded these pieces where they describe what they want to be when they grow up. These pieces are a result of their weekly sessions in which students will learn about the microphones, mixers and digital recorders used in producing features for radio.
Wilkinsburg after school students let their imaginations run wild in this group story about an exceptionally strange day. Each student added their own piece to the narrative which included everything from farm animals & tornadoes to fancy cars & martians. Listen and enjoy!
It had been discussed by a different block of After Schoolers earlier in the semester, but as the year comes to a close, other members of Brashear’s Radio Club offered up some fresh advice to incoming freshmen.
Students at Pittsburgh Manchester had a chance to answer the classic hypothetical: “If you could travel back in time, where would you go?”
