After having to make some educated guesses about electricity, campers not only got to learn about electrons, circuits and conductivity, they experienced these things first hand thanks to the “Makey Makey,” an invention kit created by JoyLabz LLC that turns everyday objects into buttons for computers. From becoming a human piano to playing Pong on oranges, students experimented with basic circuit building.
On our fourteenth day we asked our Radio Campers what they knew about electricity. They were also given the opportunity to write a “silly” explanation of this shocking phenomenon.
On our thirteenth day, campers were asked about a time they achieved something. From helping an elder cross the street to winning second place in their very first softball tournament, our radio campers had a lot to be proud of!
On our twelfth day of Radio Camp we decided to put a little twist on our writing exercise. Campers were given an SLB-themed Mad Lib and had to come up with: A job title, a movie, a country, two verbs, a plural noun, a noun, a plurality of a creature, two foods, a famous person and a natural disaster.
On our eleventh day, Radio Campers–after having to theorize how they worked–finally got to build their very own radio!
On our tenth day, Radio Campers were asked how they thought a radio worked. After writing down some of their imaginative ideas, they got to record!
On our ninth day of Radio Camp, campers got a crash course in Adobe Audition, the audio editing software we use to polish their recordings. Taking turns with a wireless keyboard, each camper received a turn to edit their own voice with it projected onto a large white board.
Radio campers got to make like Marty Mcfly and imagine that, if they could travel back through time, where would they go, what would they do, and, most importantly, how would they teach a pteranodon to sing “Fancy?
Students wrote and recorded if they had their own radio station what would they play and what would their tagline be. Also, some students wrote and recorded their own songs.
