Pittsburgh Brashear After School: Who was John A. Brashear?

Submitted by on March 4, 2015 – 2:58 pm

Students knew that Brashear’s namesake was John A. Brashear but they didn’t know much else about the astronomer, inventor, and Western Pennsylvania native.

We asked Radio Club members to tell us what they thought John A. Brashear did and who he was before we passed out some reading material about him. (Googling was prohibited to protect the spirit of the game but some students remembered a good bit about Brashear from a field trip.)

After we learned a little bit about John A. Brashear, students reflected and discussed what it might be like if the telescope maker visited the school that bears his name in modern day.
