Since 1978, The Saturday Light Brigade has broadcast LIVE spontaneous on-air phone calls from kids and adults as part of its Saturday morning radio program. Now you can hear some of the most memorable calls from people participating in on-air games and other participatory features or simply calling to tell us about something exciting.

Country music legend Slim Bryant

We are extremely lucky to have a bona fide country music “legend” living in Pittsburgh. Centenarian Slim Bryant resides in Dormont and is an historic figure in C&W, who’s illustrious career includes having written the Jimmie Rodgers’ classic, Mother, the Queen of My Heart. Bryant’s Wildcats were a radio staple in the Fifties, with frequent performances on KDKA’s “The Farm Show.”

International Children’s Painting Competition Exhibition

As we celebrate World Environment Day with Pittsburgh as the North American host city, Rebecca Lucore talks about Pittsburgh’s hosting of the International Children’s Painting Competition Exhibition, organized annually by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Bayer Corporation and Nikon Corporation. The competition invites children from around the world, ages six to 14, to illustrate their personal view of the environment. More than 75 artworks from North America, including the winning entries and the best from Pittsburgh, are on display 6/4 through 8/1 at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. This year’s theme is “Biodiversity: Connecting with Nature.”

The BLSMMA Blitz

Four teen-writers, publishers and comic artists from Bishop Leonard St. Mary of the Mount Academy on Mt. Washington join us to discuss their student run newspaper, The BLSMMA Blitz. Founder Marguerite McCrory, Jessica Bauer, Lauren Lucas and Terry McCollum co-run the paper that has released monthly editions since October ’09. Terry McCollum will also perform an original song on guitar, live on SLB.
