Inclined to Care: Lifting the Alleghenies to New Heights, 2016
IN SUMMER 2016, the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies welcomed ten Youth Philanthropy Interns. This 8-week program was made possible through a grant from The Heinz Endowments and is based on its long-running similar program in Pittsburgh. Throughout their internship, students assessed community needs and developed two opportunities for local non-profits to apply for grants of up to $25,000 to address these needs. In addition to their grantmaking, interns created the radio documentaries on this CD with training from SLB Radio Productions in Pittsburgh. SLB will air the features across its 10-station network.
River Rapture: Working Together to Restore the Stonycreek-Conemaugh Basin – J.T. Durica & Nick Yost, based on interviews with David Leiford (Pa. Department of Environment Protection), Len Lichvar (Stoneycreek-Conemaugh River Improvement Project), and Branden Diehl and John Dawes (both of The Foundation For Pennsylvania Watersheds)
Flight 93 Through the Eyes of Somerset County – Marshal Engleka & Max Myers, based on interviews with Jim Brodrick (Pa. State Trooper), Run Buxton (Highland Tank), Adam Shaffer (Flight 93 National Park), and Henry Scully (Friends of Flight 93)
BONUS TRACK: Senior Interns David & Kate (and this year’s eight interns) talk about the Summer 2016 program and how Class of 2017 high school graduates can apply to be a Youth Philanthropy Intern at the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies.
