The Media Empowerment Student Summit (MESS) celebrated it’s second consecutive year – giving Pittsburgh area youth the opportunity to learn, interact, and network with a variety of like-minded professionals. The event, held at Carnegie Mellon University, featured seminars and workshops from organizations like TeenBloc, Digital Corps, and GTech.

This week Clairton students got a chance to express themselves through a number of creative writing project! One involved a desperate, Dr. Doolittle-esque bid for survival, one about future employment, and another concerning Veterans and their service. Two students even wrote an original song which they sang as a duet!
Students at Pittsburgh King were given a variety of writing prompts ranging from: “What would you change if you were president?” to “What is an important issue in your life?” After writing, they then made these recordings. One student even recorded a brief preview of a TV script she had written in her spare time!

A new school year has begun and with it a new year of Radio Club at Clairton Middle School’s CASTLE program! As an introduction to radio production–as well as to each other–5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students were asked to answer this writing prompt: “In three words, how would others describe you?”
