Project Destiny Radio Club: My Achievements
Today in Radio Club we talked about a time that we achieved something. Whether it was working hard to get a good grade on a test or just a proud moment, everyone had something inspiring to share! Everyone had a chance to run the mixing board and record their peers in the process.
Pittsburgh Spring Hill K-5 Radio Club: The Importance of Creativity
Students in Radio Club at Pittsburgh Spring Hill K-5 wrote and recorded these pieces about the importance of creativity. First we had a discussion about ways to be creative and the things that make it fun. Then, we each wrote about what what being creative means to us.
The ZONE: Zoo Story
The ZONE’s Radio Club-ers were tasked with answering these very difficult questions: “What would you do if, while at the Zoo, all the animals were released and an aggressive panda cornered you? What if you yelled ‘Stop!’ and suddenly discovered you could speak to animals?”
Clairton CASTLE: Alien Stories
Radio clubbers at Clairton’s CASTLE program wrote and recorded stories about making first contact with an alien species. Unfortunately, most of the aliens turned out to be more like the titular alien in “Alien” rather than like an E.T. or a Mork or a Chewbacca.
The ZONE: Audio Mad Lib
The ZONE’s Radio Clubers received access to Netbooks, with which they assembled a Mad Lib from previously recorded audio fragments. Most recordings had transformed into the Beatle’s “Revolution 9”-esque mishmashes before they’d even unleashed the “Pitch Bender” feature upon them.
Propel Northside Radio Club: The Importance of Creativity
This week in Radio Club, we finished our time clocks from the previous week and shared with the group what our radio program would sound like. Then we had a discussion about creativity and why it’s important for ourselves and for our world.
Clairton CASTLE: Audio Mad Lib
Radio Clubers at Clairton used MacBooks to assemble an Audio Mad Lib; using previous recorded clips of verbs and nouns, as well as the “body” of the Mad Lib (secretly recorded at the SLB studios), students built a finished Mad Lib in Adobe Audition. But, rather than conforming to boring, generic coherence, most of the students rendered their finished Mad Libs into Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.”
Project Destiny Radio Club: The Radio Studio
Today, students in Radio Club at Project Destiny got to see what it takes to run a radio program. Everyone got a chance to sit in the “DJ chair” and run the mixing board. We listened to CDs, chose music from the mp3 library and interviewed each other. As you can see from the photos, a lot of fun was had. We even learned about designing a studio and the materials used to make a room sound proof and radio friendly!

Pittsburgh Langley K-8: Technology Talk
Students in Citiparks’ After School Academy at Pittsburgh Langley K-8 wrote and recorded pieces in which they discussed technology and how it affects their daily lives. These pieces are the result of weekly sessions in which students are learning about the equipment and techniques used in producing features for radio, with the goal of creating announcements for their morning assembly.
