Read the full story »In October 2012, students in the Propel Andrew Street High School Radio Club convened and interviewed a panel of professionals who have careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math (aka “STEM”). Then, with guidance from The Saturday Light Brigade, students edited and produced radio pieces featuring discussions about the importance of STEM fields in our society. Panelists included Drs. Steve Smith, Greg Barlow and Zach Rubinstein of the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute; Dan Klein and Mark Tomczak, engineers at Google; and Blair Weber, a research and development chemist at Reaxis, Inc., a chemical manufacturing company in McDonald, Pennsylvania.

On March 15th, 2013–with Spring just around the corner–5th graders attending the Pittsburgh Allegheny Radio Club were asked what they hoped for during this new season of rebirth. From exciting family vacations to the savoring of nature’s beauty, Spring looks to be warmly received at A.T.A.
On March 8th, 2013, 5th graders at Pittsburgh Allegheny attended the Radio Club for the third time; and this time they were asked what they thought some of their best personal accomplishments were. As it turns out, this class is composed almost entirely of great test takers!
5th Grade Students in Radio Club at Pittsburgh Allegheny PreK-8 recorded these pieces in which they discuss issues that concern them. These pieces are a result of the second of six weekly sessions in which students will learn about the microphones, and the recording equipment used in producing features for radio.
On the fifth day of Pittsburgh King’s Radio Club students were asked how they felt about their neighborhoods. The conversation then segued into a round table discussion on local gun violence.
Students in Citiparks’ After School Academy at Pittsburgh Langley K-8 wrote and recorded these pieces about a time they felt proud about something they accomplished.
