Since 1978, The Saturday Light Brigade has broadcast LIVE spontaneous on-air phone calls from kids and adults as part of its Saturday morning radio program. Now you can hear some of the most memorable calls from people participating in on-air games and other participatory features or simply calling to tell us about something exciting.

Westinghouse After School Academy 2016: “A Time I Achieved”

Students attending after school at Westinghouse Academy were asked to reflect, write and record about a time they had achieved something. From successfully operating a YouTube channel to helping up a fallen adult, each Radio Clubber had their own individual moment of pride.

It never hurts to have a pseudonym on hand. Just ask authors like Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), Benjamin Franklin (Anthony Afterwit, among many others), or Stephen King (Richard Bachmann). We tasked after school students at Propel Pitcairn with creating an alias and a backstory for their phantom character.

With Halloween nearly upon us, after school students at Propel Hazelwood thought back to their favorite memories of the holiday and looked forward to what kind of excitement this year might hold. Potential costumes the year range from princess skeletons (combination ensembles are in right now) to killer clowns.

Students at Westinghouse were introduced to the basics of audio production. After learning the ropes, they wrote and recorded these pieces about themselves, describing their likes, their dislikes and–for one student–how a white tiger would make an ideal pet!

With the upcoming election now an inescapable topic du jour, we asked students at Propel Pitcairn what they would change if they suddenly became the mayor of Pittsburgh, (though some students chose to answer the prompt as President of the United States).
